Thanks to our extensive network of domestic shipping partners, we can provide heavy haul transport throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico. This specialized type of domestic trucking is essential to many different industries, including agriculture, mining, oil and gas, construction, and alternative energy. No matter what industry you work in, we can make sure your heavy equipment makes it to its final destination on time and in excellent condition.

Overcoming the Challenges of Heavy Haul Transport

Heavy haul trucking can present significantly more logistical challenges than routine trucking. Some of these challenges include:

  • Procuring an Appropriate Trailer: For heavy loads, you will likely need a tractor trailer with at least 7 axles, and you may need an even larger trailer, depending on the weight and size of the equipment being transported.
  • Loading the Cargo: Global Freight often procures cranes and other lifting equipment to safely load and unload heavy cargo on a flatbed truck.
  • Permits: The regulations for heavy haul carriers vary from state to state, but wherever you are, you’ll need permits from the appropriate authorities in order to move cargo that exceeds legal load limits. Global Freight can obtain all the necessary permits for your move.
  • Escort Vehicles: In some cases, cargo that is tall, wide, or prevents the truck from maintaining minimum legal speeds will require an escort (typically a pilot car and rear pilot car). Global Freight can arrange this escort when necessary.

Case Study

We can haul just about any type of heavy machinery—in fact, we’ve even moved heavy natural gas compressors and coolers from remote south Texas to Mumbai, India. The first challenge we faced with these components (the heaviest of which weighed 70 metric tons) was transporting them from the shippers’ facility in Sweeny, TX to the Port of Houston. Working with local partners, we secured three heavy duty oilfield winch trucks so that we could safely and efficiently load the equipment onto an 8-axle trailer without having to use cranes.

Due to the weight and dimensions of the equipment, we had to arrange for a police escort to accompany the tractor trailer to the Port of Houston. The shipment arrived at the port safely, and our team crated and shrink wrapped the equipment to prepare it for its ocean voyage. We were able to deliver the equipment to the port and prepare it for ocean transportation in just 4 working days.
